ROIs and Scanning Modes
Multiple scanning modes that fit any thickness measurement application.

Not all thickness measurement applications were born equal. Some processes call for a simple average of the material thickness profile, while other applications require a more fine-tuned approach.

Co-efficient’s laser thickness gauges offer multiple scanning modes that fit a wide range of methodologies. If you are interested in measuring the thickness of your material surface in specific locations, our benchtop series allows users to define custom Regions of Interest (ROI).

Each time a scan is initialized, the scanning arm of the gauge will hover over the entire profile of the material (scanning path). However, with the ROI feature turned on, the operator screen will display the average thickness at the points of intersection of the scanning path with the ROIs, creating up to 3 separate measurements per scan. 



ROIs are defined by two parameters: distance from the material edge, and width of the region. The ROIs are symmetrical on both sides (relative to the material centerline), and are perpendicular to the scanning path. Should you choose to focus on 3 regions of interest, the middle ROI will be automatically positioned at the center of the sample.

Our benchtop gauges support the following scanning modes*:

  1. Single scan, ROI off- mean thickness of the material profile along the scanning path. The material is typically placed in a centered position relative to the gauge’s scanning arm.

  2. Single scan, ROI on- single scan path with a total of two measurement points. The operator’s screen will display individual thickness readings at each ROI, as well as the mean value for the entire material profile.


  3. Dual scan, ROI on by default-  two scan paths with a total of four measurement points. The operator’s screen will display the individual thickness reading at each point, as well as the combined mean thickness of the two scanning paths.



  4. 3x3, ROI on by default- three scan paths with a total of nine measurement points. The operator’s screen will display the individual thickness reading at each point, as well as the combined mean thickness of the three scanning paths.
